Our Goal

Impacting Communities Through Creative Mobilization

Our Aim

The aim of the organization is to involve the youth mainly from less privileged communities in creative
engagement with their peers and the various communities in the country. The organization
established Nimujo Edutainment Center located in Mwananyamala one of the poor neighborhoods
in Kinondoni district, in Dar es Salaam which offers poor youth the opportunity to nurture their talents
in the various forms of the arts including drama, dance, and music and to subsequently have
opportunities to hve some income.

Our Objectives In Community

What We Do

Better Nation recognizes the impact that the arts have in community mobilization. Over the years we have engaged various communities in various regions in the country through the arts. The messages of advocacy that we are required to communicate to communities are creatively integrated in the traditional songs and dances from the various communities, role plays, and poetry in what we call edutainment. We therefore offer entertainment and education at the same time and this helps to reach wide audiences as many who are attracted by our performances get to hear the messages that are targeted to them and hence have a greater impact to a greater number of people. Indeed in the open forums that we have in the middle of our performances have many participants in our events have attested that the messages have indeed reached.

Our Specific Objectives Include The Following

Integrating youths, through cultural arts and sports as a way of helping them to have an identity of who they are, to overcome life’s challenges and eradicate poverty.
Helping the youth from poor backgrounds to identify their potential talents and nurture them through training and mentoring through our centre in Dar es Salaam and support them as they establish themselves in life
Carrying out Resilience programs mostly targeting the youth in an effort to prevent or counter violent extremism in the country and also to enhance religious harmony through understanding and tolerance.
Promoting social behavior change through community advocacy by increasing knowledge and practical skills on how to prevent themselves from HIV and STI related risks and also to fight stigmatization of people who are living with HIV and to make them feel part of the community

Climate

Helping to conserve the environment through clean up exercises where we involve the youth on specific weekends to clean streets

Influence

Building capacities of local arts groups by making them more professional and thus enabling them to establish themselves as a brand and hence help them to earn income through entertainment

Training

Establishing arts groups/clubs in schools and Teachers training colleges/centers in order to
help the young ones to identify their talents at relatively young ages
